Metal Roofing Materials & Manufacturers

A standing seam metal roof is only as good as the materials that go into it and the manufacturers behind those materials. We chose every product we install for a reason, and we built this page to show you exactly what goes into our roofing system.

We install premium standing seam roofing only, forming our own 1.5-inch SnapLock panels on our roll-former from premium coated steel and aluminum coil. Every roof is built using 22 or 24-gauge steel or .032-inch or .040-inch aluminum, finished in 70% Kynar 500 PVDF, and assembled with components chosen to perform together as one roofing system.

This page is the overview of the materials we use. Each component, manufacturer, and system has its own detailed page that explains why we selected it and how it contributes to the performance of the finished roof.

Nothing on our roof is an accident. The standing seam panels, premium finishes, fire-resistant underlayment, ember-resistant roof vents, and heavy-duty floating clips were selected to work together to protect your home against fire, water intrusion, and high winds.

What Materials Go Into Our Standing Seam Roof?

Every standing seam roof we build is made up of carefully selected components that are engineered to work together. Each material has a specific job, and each has its own detailed page if you want to learn more.

Standing Seam Panels

We form our own 1.5-inch SnapLock standing seam panels on our roll-former using premium coated steel and aluminum coil. The complete specifications, dimensions, installation standards, and independent performance ratings are available on our specification page.

Metal Roofing Specifications

70% Kynar 500 Finish

Every roof receives a 70% Kynar 500 PVDF finish, not the less expensive SMP coating that fades and chalks over time. Both Taylor Metals and Sheffield Metals offer their own Kynar 500 color palettes.

Polyglass Polystick XFR Underlayment

Beneath every roof we install a full deck of Polyglass Polystick XFR, a self-adhered, fire-resistant underlayment engineered for the temperatures generated beneath standing seam metal roofing. It serves as the roof's secondary barrier against fire, water intrusion, and wind.

Polyglass Polystick XFR Underlayment

Vulcan Ember-Resistant Vents

We install Vulcan Vents because they allow the attic to ventilate normally every day, then automatically swell shut in a fire to block embers, flame, and heat. They are an important part of our wildfire-resistant roofing system.

Vulcan Vents

Heavy-Duty Floating Clips

Our standing seam panels are secured using heavy-duty floating clips with two fasteners per clip, installed at approximately double the manufacturer-recommended clip count. The floating design allows the panels to expand and contract with changing temperatures while maintaining exceptional wind resistance.

Standing Seam Clips & Fasteners

Which Manufacturers Do We Use, and Why Only Two?

We install products from only two manufacturers: Taylor Metals and Sheffield Metals. We made that decision deliberately. If we are willing to stand behind a roof with our 8-year workmanship warranty, we need complete confidence in the materials beneath it.

Offering only two brands should tell you something about how carefully we vet the products we install. Both manufacturers consistently produce premium standing seam materials that meet our standards for quality, performance, long-term durability, and finish.

Taylor Metals

Taylor Metals offers an outstanding selection of premium steel and aluminum products finished in 70% Kynar 500 PVDF. Their color lineup includes traditional architectural colors, the Definitive Matte Collection, premium metallic finishes, and specialty weathering materials.

Taylor Metals

Sheffield Metals

Sheffield Metals is especially well known for its premium aluminum roofing products, making it an excellent choice for homes in coastal environments. Like Taylor, Sheffield offers both steel and aluminum products finished in 70% Kynar 500 PVDF, with its own distinctive color collections.

Sheffield Metals

Which Brand Do We Recommend?

The answer usually comes down to color, not quality.

Both manufacturers produce premium standing seam materials, both offer steel and aluminum options, and both are backed by our 8-year workmanship warranty. Once you've selected the color you want, the manufacturer is usually chosen automatically because that color belongs to that manufacturer's palette.

That gives you the freedom to choose the appearance you love without compromising the quality of the roofing system protecting your home.

Is Steel or Aluminum Better for a Roof?

Both are outstanding roofing materials. The right choice depends on where your home is located. We recommend steel for inland homes and aluminum for coastal homes exposed to salt air because aluminum does not rust.

Steel for Inland Homes

For most homes in Los Angeles, Ventura, and Riverside Counties, premium coated Galvalume steel provides exceptional strength, long-term durability, and outstanding value. We install 22-gauge and 24-gauge steel, never 26-gauge, and every panel receives a 70% Kynar 500 PVDF finish for long-lasting color and finish performance.

Aluminum for Coastal Homes

Homes near the Pacific Ocean face a different environment. Salt air is highly corrosive to steel over time, which is why we recommend .032-inch or .040-inch aluminum for coastal applications. Because aluminum does not rust, it delivers superior long-term performance in marine environments.

Coastal Aluminum Roofing

The Roofing System Stays the Same

Whether you choose steel or aluminum, the roofing system remains the same. We form every panel on our own roll-former into a 1.5-inch SnapLock standing seam profile, use the same 70% Kynar 500 PVDF finish, install the same Polyglass Polystick XFR underlayment, protect it with the same ember-resistant Vulcan vents, and secure every panel with our heavy-duty floating clip system.

Your decision is based on the environment around your home, not on a compromise in quality. Both materials are premium roofing products designed to deliver decades of performance when matched to the right application.

What Makes the Best Metal Roof?

The best metal roof is not one product. It is an engineered system. Premium materials only deliver their full performance when every component is selected to work with the others. That is exactly how we build every standing seam roof.

The foundation of our system is a premium 1.5-inch standing seam panel, formed on our own roll-former from 22 or 24-gauge steel or .032-inch or .040-inch aluminum. Every panel receives a 70% Kynar 500 PVDF finish for long-term color retention and durability.

Beneath the panels is Polyglass Polystick XFR, a self-adhered, fire-resistant underlayment that provides a continuous secondary barrier against fire, water intrusion, and wind.

Polyglass Polystick XFR Underlayment

At the ridge, we install Vulcan ember-resistant vents that provide everyday attic ventilation and swell shut in a fire, helping protect one of the roof's most vulnerable openings.

Vulcan Vents

Together, these materials contribute to a Class A fire-rated roofing assembly while our heavy-duty floating clip system helps the roof achieve outstanding wind performance. Every component has a specific purpose, and every component supports the others.

The result is a standing seam roofing system built from two carefully vetted manufacturers, premium materials, and installation standards that work together to protect your home from fire, water intrusion, and high winds. Nothing on our roof is an accident.
