Sheffield Metals Standing Seam Roofing

Sheffield Metals is one of the two manufacturers we install, alongside Taylor Metals. Both make premium standing seam systems in their own wide ranges of Kynar 500 colors, and we choose between them based on the exact color you want, for inland and coastal homes alike.

Our Sheffield system is the 1.5-inch SnapLock 450, available in .032-inch or .040-inch aluminum or 22-gauge and 24-gauge steel, finished in a durable Kynar 500 PVDF coating that resists fading and chalking. We match the metal to your home and the color to your taste, then install it to perform for decades across Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, and Riverside counties.

Sheffield Metals roofing combines premium Kynar 500 finishes with a standing seam profile built for long-term durability.

Who Is Sheffield Metals?

Sheffield Metals is a leading standing seam metal roofing manufacturer, known for its aluminum systems and an extensive Kynar 500 color palette. It is one of the two brands we install, chosen whenever it carries the color a homeowner wants.

Sheffield's standing seam systems are designed specifically for architectural roofing and run in heavy-gauge steel or aluminum.

Sheffield's extensive Kynar 500 PVDF color palette gives homeowners dozens of durable finish options while resisting fading and chalking under years of sun exposure. Combined with the company's engineered panel systems and our installation standards, it creates a roof built to last.

The Sheffield System We Install

We install the Sheffield Metals 1.5-inch SnapLock 450 because it delivers the clean appearance homeowners want and the engineered performance a standing seam roof requires. For homes that demand even greater wind or weather resistance, we also offer a mechanical seam upgrade.

The SnapLock 450 is Sheffield's flagship architectural standing seam system for residential roofing. It features a 16-inch panel width, a 1.5-inch standing seam, and is available in .032-inch or .040-inch aluminum or 22-gauge and 24-gauge steel. Panels are manufactured with a smooth finish or an optional embossed texture and are installed with concealed clips engineered for the project.

The system is designed for installation over solid wood or plywood roof decking with a minimum roof slope of 3:12. The concealed fastening system allows the roof to maintain its clean appearance while accommodating normal thermal movement.

Every Sheffield panel we install receives a Kynar 500 PVDF finish, providing outstanding resistance to fading, chalking, and Southern California's intense UV exposure.

For projects with high winds, long panel runs, or lower roof slopes, we recommend upgrading to a mechanically seamed standing seam system. It requires additional labor because each seam is mechanically folded after installation, creating an even tighter weather seal for demanding conditions.

Steel or Aluminum: Which Sheffield Metal Is Right for You?

Sheffield makes the SnapLock 450 in both steel and aluminum, so the right choice comes down to where you live. For coastal and salt-air homes we install aluminum, because steel can corrode in salt air and aluminum does not. For inland homes, 22-gauge or 24-gauge steel is an excellent, cost-effective choice, and aluminum is always an option too.

Either way, the color you want decides the brand. If your color lives in Sheffield's palette, we run Sheffield. If it lives in Taylor's, we run Taylor. The metal is matched to your home's exposure, and the brand is matched to your color.

Sheffield Colors and Finishes

Sheffield Metals offers one of the industry's most extensive Kynar 500 PVDF color selections. Whether your home is contemporary, Spanish, traditional, or coastal, there is a finish designed to complement the architecture while standing up to Southern California's sun and weather.

Every Sheffield roof we install is finished with Kynar 500 PVDF, a premium coating that resists fading, chalking, and color breakdown far better than lower-grade paint systems. The finish helps your roof maintain its appearance for decades while requiring very little maintenance.

Sheffield offers both smooth and optional embossed finishes. Smooth panels create a sleek, contemporary appearance, while embossed panels add subtle texture that can reduce the visibility of minor surface variations and create a more traditional look.

Popular Southern California color choices include:

Matte Black
Charcoal Gray
Medium Bronze
Dark Bronze
Slate Gray
Sierra Tan
Hartford Green
Regal White

Sheffield's 40-Year Warranty

A warranty is only valuable when the roofing system is built to qualify for it. We install Sheffield Metals roofing exactly the way the manufacturer intends, allowing you to receive both Sheffield's 40-year transferable manufacturer warranty and our 8-year workmanship warranty.

Sheffield's manufacturer warranty covers qualifying roofing systems installed with approved materials and methods. Our workmanship warranty covers the installation itself. Together, they protect both the roofing product and the labor behind it.

Our installation standards already meet the requirements for the manufacturer's warranty. We install 22-gauge or 24-gauge steel, or .032-inch or .040-inch aluminum, perform a complete tear-off, and install every roof over solid wood decking. That is how we build every standing seam roof because it is the right way to do it.

We use only the very best metal, and we put our 8-year workmanship warranty behind just two manufacturers, Taylor and Sheffield. That should tell you something.

Engineered for Thermal Movement

Metal roofing expands and contracts as temperatures change. A standing seam roof must be engineered to accommodate that movement so the panels remain flat, secure, and weathertight for decades.

The Sheffield 1.5-inch SnapLock 450 system is designed to move naturally with changing temperatures. We install the concealed clips according to the engineered specifications and provide the proper air space beneath the panels so they can expand and contract without placing unnecessary stress on the roofing system.

Managing thermal movement correctly also helps reduce the likelihood of oil canning, the visible waviness that can occur in flat metal panels. While oil canning is a visual characteristic rather than a structural defect, proper engineering and installation help minimize its appearance.

What UL Certifications Does Sheffield Metals Offer?

Sheffield Metals standing seam roofing systems are tested to recognized UL performance standards for fire, wind, and weather resistance. Those certifications give architects, engineers, building officials, and homeowners confidence that the roofing system has been independently evaluated for demanding conditions.

Depending on the panel profile and assembly, Sheffield systems are available with certifications including:

UL Class A fire-rated roof assemblies
UL 580 uplift resistance testing
UL 1897 roof system uplift testing
Additional engineering and code approvals for specific assemblies

The final certification depends on the complete roof assembly, not just the metal panels. Roof decking, underlayment, fastening methods, clips, and installation details all contribute to the tested system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sheffield Metals International is one of the country's leading suppliers of the coated steel and aluminum coil used to build standing seam metal roofs. Sheffield supplies the premium Galvalume steel and aluminum, finished in 70% Kynar 500 PVDF, that we form into your roof. It is one of only two brands we trust enough to install and back with our warranty.

No, Sheffield Metals supplies the coated steel and aluminum coil. We form the actual panels ourselves at your home on our own roll-former because every panel is a different size, even if only by 1/8 inch. We measure then form... measure then form.

We install Sheffield Metals because it is a proven, premium brand and one of only two we trust enough to back with our warranty. Sheffield's coil is finished in 70% Kynar 500 PVDF, tested to the toughest building-code standards, and carries strong paint and weathertight warranties. Its Los Angeles distribution center also means fast, reliable local supply, so your roof is never held up waiting on material.

Sheffield offers several standing seam profiles, and SnapLock 450 is its popular 1.5-inch snap-lock panel, where each panel snaps over the next with the fasteners hidden inside the seam. Sheffield also makes 1.5-inch and 2-inch mechanically-seamed profiles for low-slope and high-wind roofs. We run Sheffield coil through our own roll-former to create a 1.5-inch standing seam, so you get a concealed-fastener profile matched to your roof. We also offer mechanical seam metal roofs.

Yes, Sheffield Metals is a high-quality brand whose standing seam systems are independently tested and code-approved. Its profiles are UL-tested and rated for wind uplift, water penetration, and impact resistance, and they meet California's strict building and fire codes. That independent testing is a big part of why we trust Sheffield on homes in our fire and wind zones.

Sheffield backs its metal with strong manufacturer warranties: a paint finish warranty up to 40 years against fading and chalking, weathertight warranties up to 35 years, and substrate warranties on the Galvalume steel and aluminum. On top of Sheffield's product warranties, we add our own 8-year workmanship warranty on the installation, so both the material and the labor are covered.

Yes, Sheffield's standing seam systems earn Class A, the highest roofing fire rating, which is essential for a home in California's fire country. Sheffield tests its panels to the UL fire and impact standards, and installed as a complete assembly over our fire-resistant underlayment, a Sheffield roof gives wind-driven embers nothing to catch. It is one of the reasons Sheffield is a brand we trust for wildfire-zone homes.

Sheffield offers a broad palette of premium standing seam colors, all in a 70% Kynar 500 PVDF finish, including its CoolR cool-roof collection and its CORELINE Textured Low-Gloss (TLG) matte line. Because there are dozens of options, we cover them in detail on our Sheffield colors and finishes page, where you can see the full range and the cool-roof choices.
