What Colors Does Taylor Metals Offer?

Taylor Metal Products offers two color collections that are included in our standard standing seam roofing quotes: the Standard Kynar 500 palette, featuring about 23 architectural colors, and the Definitive Matte Collection, a low-gloss series with 10 to 15% sheen. Together, they provide a wide range of architectural colors for virtually every home style.

The Standard Kynar 500 palette delivers classic architectural colors with a clean, polished appearance, while the Definitive Matte Collection offers a low-gloss alternative for homeowners who prefer a different finish. Both collections are available on qualifying 22-gauge and 24-gauge steel and .032-inch and .040-inch aluminum, depending on color and substrate availability.

Taylor also offers premium metallic and specialty weathering finishes, covered later on this page.

Standard Gloss vs. the Definitive Matte Collection

Taylor Metal Products gives you two distinct finish styles. The Standard Kynar 500 palette delivers a clean, architectural gloss that highlights the crisp lines of a standing seam roof. The Definitive Matte Collection features a 10 to 15% sheen, creating a softer, more subdued appearance.

The Standard Kynar 500 palette complements virtually every architectural style, from Spanish Revival and Mediterranean homes to traditional, coastal, and contemporary designs. Its standard gloss finish reflects more light, giving the roof a vibrant, refined appearance.

The Definitive Matte Collection is designed for homeowners who prefer a muted finish that softens reflections and reduces glare. It is especially well suited to modern, farmhouse, hillside, and contemporary homes. The collection includes Midnight Bronze, Aged Bronze, Sterling Mist, Black Slate, Balboa Grey, and Pebble Grey.

During your consultation, we bring samples from both the Standard Kynar 500 palette and the Definitive Matte Collection so you can compare them side by side and choose the finish that best complements your home's architecture.

Premium and Specialty Finishes

Beyond the two color collections included in your quote, Taylor Metal Products offers premium finishes and specialty materials for homeowners looking for a distinctive architectural statement. Because these products use specialized materials and fabrication methods, they are quoted per project.

Taylor's Premium Metallic Kynar 500 finishes include Metallic Silver, Champagne, Antique Patina, Weathered Zinc, and Copper Penny. These colors add depth, dimension, and metallic character while retaining the durability of a 70% Kynar 500 PVDF finish.

Taylor also offers two premium architectural finishes. Vintage is a pre-aged, graffiti-resistant coating backed by a 20-year warranty, while Rustic Rawhide delivers the appearance of naturally weathered metal with a distinctive textured finish.

For homeowners who want authentic weathering materials, Taylor offers Real Copper, real zinc in elZinc Graphite and elZinc Slate, Rusteel Plus for a Corten-style weathering steel appearance, Zincalume, and Galvanized. These materials naturally develop character over time, creating a roof with an appearance that continues to evolve.

Why Taylor's Kynar 500 Color Holds Up

A roof color should look as good decades from now as it does on installation day. That is why every painted Taylor Metal Products finish uses 70% Kynar 500 PVDF resin, a premium architectural coating engineered for long-term performance in Southern California's demanding climate.

Compared with lower-grade SMP paint systems, Kynar 500 resists fading and chalking far better, helping your standing seam roof maintain its rich color and clean appearance over time. Taylor backs its Standard Kynar 500 finishes with a 40-year residential finish warranty, along with 20-year and 30-year commercial finish warranties, depending on the application.

If energy efficiency is a priority, lighter colors also provide higher Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) values. Glacier White (SRI 85), Sierra Tan (SRI 60), and Parchment (SRI 58) reflect more solar heat and can help support California Title 24 cool roof goals.

Like all standing seam metal roofing, Taylor panels can exhibit oil canning. This is an inherent visual characteristic of flat metal panels and is not a manufacturing defect.

The best way to choose a standing seam roof color is to see it in person. Online images and printed brochures are helpful, but they cannot accurately show how a color will look on your home or how it changes throughout the day as the light changes.

We bring actual Taylor Metal Products color samples to your home so you can compare them in natural daylight against your stucco, stone, brick, trim, and landscaping. Seeing the colors on your own home makes it much easier to choose a finish you'll be happy with for decades.

Frequently Asked Questions

Taylor Metals offers roughly 30 standard-price colors, spanning its Standard Kynar 500 palette and its Definitive Matte Collection, plus premium metallic finishes and specialty weathering materials. Colors range from clean neutrals like Glacier White, Ash Grey, and Sterling Grey to warm bronzes and coppers, deep greens and blues, and rich reds, all in a 70% Kynar 500 PVDF finish. Because we run Taylor coil through our own roll-former, we can install any Taylor color on your standing seam roof.

Taylor's Definitive Matte Collection is a suite of matte, low-gloss Kynar 500 finishes for a modern, understated look, including tones like Midnight Bronze, Aged Bronze, Black Slate, Sterling Mist, Balboa Grey, and Pebble Grey. At roughly 10 to 15 percent sheen, these matte colors read as refined and contemporary and hide minor surface texture better than a glossy finish. They are a popular choice for modern homes that want a flat, low-sheen roof.

Taylor's colors are expected to last and resist fading for 40 years. They are backed by a 40-year residential Kynar 500 paint warranty against fading and chalking and are finished in 70% Kynar 500 PVDF. Because the color is baked into the metal at the factory rather than painted on, it holds its true tone far longer than a cheap finish painted on top as with cheaper brands.

You can view the full Taylor color chart to browse every collection side by side, and we can provide physical color samples so you can judge a color in real daylight against your home. Seeing a Taylor color in the sun, next to your stucco and trim, is the surest way to choose.

Yes, every standard Taylor roof color we install is a cool roof because the colors carry a Solar Reflectance Index of 20 or higher, the requirement to be considered a cool roof. However, most Taylor colors sit well above the threshold, up to SRI 85 for Glacier White, and the higher the SRI, the greater the reflectance and energy savings, because your home stays cooler. As a general rule, whether asphalt, clay, concrete or metal, darker colors have a lower SRI and reflect less of the sun, which is why many dark colors don't qualify. But with metal, even dark shades like Matte Black qualify, because metal reflects far more of the sun's heat than other roofing materials.

You can get any Taylor color on a standing seam roof, because we form our panels on our own roll-former and run Taylor coil in any color into a 1.5-inch standing seam. Your color choice is not limited by the profile, so whether you want a matte Definitive Matte tone or a premium metallic, we install it exactly as Taylor makes it.
