Why Are More Southern California Homeowners Choosing Metal Roofing?

Metal roofing offers exceptional durability, longevity, fire resistance, and energy efficiency.

Many traditional roofing systems require multiple replacements over the life of a home. A properly installed standing seam metal roof can often remain in service for 50 years or more while maintaining structural performance and visual appeal.

As wildfire concerns increase throughout Los Angeles County, Orange County, Ventura County, and Riverside County, many homeowners are choosing roofing systems designed for long-term protection and resilience.

Is A Metal Roof Worth The Investment?

Yes. Although the initial investment is often higher than asphalt shingles, many homeowners choose metal roofing because of its longevity, durability, reduced maintenance requirements, energy efficiency, and premium appearance.

When evaluated over decades rather than years, standing seam metal roofing often becomes one of the most cost-effective roofing systems available.

Why homeowners frequently choose standing seam roofing:

Long service life
Class A fire protection
Excellent wind resistance
Superior curb appeal
Solar compatibility
Reduced maintenance
Increased property value
Sustainable materials

Why Is Standing Seam Metal Roofing Different?

Standing seam roofing uses concealed fasteners instead of exposed screws.

Traditional exposed-fastener roofing systems rely on thousands of exposed penetrations throughout the roof surface.

Standing seam roofing conceals those attachment points beneath the panel system itself.

This design provides a cleaner appearance while reducing many of the long-term maintenance concerns associated with exposed fasteners.

Benefits of concealed-fastener standing seam roofing:

Cleaner appearance
Reduced maintenance
Improved weather resistance
Better thermal movement management
Enhanced durability
Premium architectural appearance

Why Do Some Metal Roofs Last Decades Longer Than Others?

The roofing system matters just as much as the metal panel.

Many homeowners focus only on the panel itself. However, long-term roof performance is influenced by numerous factors including panel thickness, clip spacing, underlayment quality, flashing details, attachment methods, and installation practices.

Two roofs may look similar from the street while performing very differently over the next 30 to 50 years.

Critical components that affect performance:

2Clip design
7Installation quality
8Ventilation design

Why Homeowners Choose The Metal Roof Pros

We build roofing systems designed for long-term performance.

Our installation philosophy is simple:

Build the roof correctly the first time.

Because we provide an 8-year workmanship warranty, our goal is not simply completing the project. Our goal is minimizing future problems through premium materials and installation practices.

Our standards include:

We do not install 26-gauge standing seam roofing because it is too thin and therefore does not meet our installation standards for long-term performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. A 50+ year lifespan. 2. The metal panels are fireproof. 3. No maintenance or ongoing costs. 4. Greater solar reflectance and energy savings than clay or concrete tile. 5. It increases your home's value. It is the last roof most Southern California homes will ever need.

Tiles crack, chip, and slide out of place as the roof shifts and heats, so they need constant, costly maintenance just to stay watertight. Worse, the open spaces between tiles let wind-driven embers blow underneath and collect, which is how many tile-roofed homes ignite from the attic out in a wildfire. Tile also reflects far less of the sun's heat, with an SRI in the 30s to 50s versus the 80s for our Kynar-finished metal, so the home runs hotter and the AC works harder, and tile is heavy enough to often require added structural support. Our standing seam roof is one continuous, interlocking, non-combustible surface: no cracks, no ember gaps, far higher heat reflectance, and a fraction of the weight.

For most homes, yes. A properly installed standing seam roof lasts 50+ years, with little to no maintenance in between. You pay once instead of re-roofing every couple of decades. It is one of the few upgrades you may never have to buy again.

Because metal is all we do, and because of how we do it.

Our C-43 specialist runs every job. He leads our crew, on the roof, forming each panel by hand. Every panel is a different length, even the ones right next to each other, sometimes by as little as 1/8 inch. That is why panels cannot be ordered ahead and shipped. Each one has to be formed on site by a true sheet-metal specialist who understands how metal moves, not just any roofer who does asphalt or tile, no matter how experienced.

We are licensed and specialized in every part of the system. Our co-founders, partners, and crew hold the C-39 (roofing), the C-43 (sheet metal, the metal expertise most roofers lack), the C-10 (full electrical, beyond the limited C-46 solar-only license), and a Class B (general building, the whole structure under your roof).

That combination is why the trade hires us for their standing seam, and why working with us directly means you are hiring the contractor other roofing contractors hire, at wholesale pricing.

Significantly. Many of our Kynar 500 colors carry a Solar Reflectance Index in the 80s, meaning they reflect most of the sun's heat instead of soaking it in. For comparison, asphalt shingles sit around 20 to 30, concrete tile 29 to 41, and clay tile 36 to 58. That higher reflectance keeps your attic and living space cooler, eases the load on your air conditioning through hot Southern California summers, and lowers cooling bills. Paired with proper attic insulation and ventilation, the whole home runs cooler and cheaper.

No, our standing seam roofs are installed over a solid deck with underlayment, and typically with attic insulation between the roof deck and ceiling, so a metal roof is no louder than any other roof in the rain, and frequently quieter.

Near the ocean, aluminum. Salt air will eventually corrode steel, so on coastal homes we install marine-grade aluminum in .032 and .040 inch thickness, which does not rust, finished in Kynar 500 for lasting color. For homes not in coastal areas, premium 22 and 24-gauge steel is an excellent, cost-effective choice. We help you pick the right metal for your location.

No, a standing seam roof needs a solid, sound deck so the clips anchor the panels securely, and an old roof left underneath compromises that. So we always tear off to the deck and inspect it first. Yes, tearing off adds some cost, but on a roof built to last 50+ years, skimping on the foundation it fastens to is a false economy.

Because thin steel oil-cans. Oil-canning is the visible waviness or rippling that shows across the flat of a metal panel, and on thin 26-gauge steel it is common and permanent, so an expensive roof ends up looking cheap and wavy. Heavy 22 and 24-gauge steel is stiff enough to stay flat and crisp, panel after panel, for the life of the roof.

It does, on two fronts. First the look: clean, continuous standing seam lines read as high-end and luxury and instantly elevate curb appeal. Second, you hand the next owner a roof with a long remaining lifespan that requires practically NO maintenance and a Class A fire rating that buyers and insurers increasingly demand in fire country. A premium metal roof definitely sets your home apart from one with an asphalt, clay or concrete tile roof.

It can. California insurers increasingly favor Class A, non-combustible roofs in fire country, and our standing seam systems meet that top rating with WUI ember protection. Many homeowners find a metal roof strengthens both their coverage and their standing with insurers in a high fire severity area.

We had The Metal Roof Pros install a 22-gauge standing seam on our hillside property. The heavier gauge was recommended for the wind exposure and steep pitch. The installation quality is exceptional. Every panel, clip, and flashing is precise.

We chose a slate blue Kynar 500 finish and it looks absolutely beautiful on our contemporary home. The Metal Roof Pros helped us visualize the color with actual panel samples before we committed. The 35-year paint warranty gave us total confidence in the investment.
